Prisons hold one in every 138 U.S. residents

65 and older group will grow 3 1/2 times

The elderly population in every state will grow faster than the total population  according to population projections released by the Census Bureau.

Seniors will also outnumber school-age children in 10 states in the next 25 years. No state had more elderly than children in 2000.

The Census Bureau predicts that 26 states will doulbe their populations of people older than 65 by 2030.  More than one in four residents will be older than 65 in 6 states by 2030.
